Getting used to the feel and use of each vehicle is in itself a horse of another color, an important aspect of the game that you'll get used to simply by playing. The Kongs agree to help in their fight with Wizpig. The three vehicles in the game - the Cart, the Plane, and the Hovercraft - each serve their own very unique purposes, and you'll be thrust into using any one of these vehicles at any time. The other key to remember is that, especially in Adventure Mode, you'll have to race on certain tracks with a certain vehicle (which will also be discussed below). By doing this, you will identify locations of key balloons, shortcuts, and other such items and points of interest that'll make the race easier. Otherwise, the best way to get used to and ultimately master a track is to simply race on it over and over again. If you need some pointers on the basic sixteen tracks in the game, then please refer to that part of the guide. These items are obtained primarily by running into balloons and other goods on the track that'll be discussed below.įor the most part, racing is done in three laps on the same track, so you will no doubt become accustomed to the track you're racing on, which will work well to your advantage. These items, weapons and accessories can then be used in your advantage, even if it's at the sake (preferably) of another driver. As will be discussed in the section below, items, weapons and accessories can and will be collected not only by you but by your opponents during the race. Time is kept to see what your fastest lap and overall times are (for posterity, of course), but the primary mission is to cross that finish line first by any means necessary.ĭiddy Kong Racing DS is not a friendly game and the races certainly aren't fair. The idea is to finish ahead of these racers and cross the finish line before they do. Generally, you will be pitted (in single player mode, anyway) against seven other computer-controlled drivers. While we cover sixteen of those tracks in the "Tracks" section of this guide, this part of the Basics section simply aims to outline what to expect in any given race, no matter the track or difficulty. At the very heart of Diddy Kong Racing DS is, of course, the ability to race on various tracks.
